Air Liquide invested $250 million in a facility to provide Micron with gas.

Air Liquide is to invest $250 million in a new industrial gas plant in Idaho to deliver ultra-pure nitrogen and other gases to US chipmaker Micron Technology.

Semiconductor manufacturers have increased production capacity in anticipation of rising demand for chips used in almost every electronic device.

“This investment will support the production of cutting-edge memory chips, particularly to meet the growing demand for computing capabilities required by artificial intelligence,” said Matthieu Giard, Air Liquide’s CEO for the Americas.

This year Micron began mass-production of its high-bandwidth memory (HBM) semiconductors for use in Nvidia’s next AI chip.

The projected Air Liquide plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2025, with the investment creating hundreds of direct and indirect jobs.
